Self-Awareness
Knowing one’s emotions – recognising a feeling as it happens is the starting point of emotional intelligence. An inability to recognise our true feelings leaves us at their mercy. On a societal level, state actors who understand the emotions or feelings present in their own populace (as well as themselves) are better able to manage these emotions and make robust decisions conducive to long-term success.
Self-Regulation
Managing emotions – knowing how to soothe oneself and transform collective angst is fundamental to good statecraft. The consequences are a united citizenry and better international relationships.
